Simplifying Everyday Life: Your Questions Answered
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to commonly asked questions about insurance and types of payments.
Which insurance plan do you accept?
We are currently in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna, and we plan to add UnitedHealthcare in the near future. Using insurance can help reduce out-of-pocket costs and make ongoing therapy more financially accessible for many individuals and families.
What if I don’ t have insurance or prefer not to use it?
We also welcome self-pay clients, which may offer additional privacy, flexibility, and greater control over treatment planning. When choosing self-pay, therapy is not limited by insurance authorization requirements, medical necessity criteria, or the need to assign a specific diagnosis for coverage. This allows treatment to be guided primarily by your clinical needs and personal goals.
How do I decide between using insurance or self-pay?
We are happy to discuss your options and help you determine which approach best supports your well-being.
How do I know if my insurance covers therapy?
We recommend checking directly with your insurance provider to understand your specific mental health benefits, including coverage, copays, and deductibles.
For most insurance plans, we process services through Headway. Headway will verify your insurance and let you know if your plan is in-network and can be used for services.
Depending on your plan, you may also see an estimate of your out-of-pocket cost. Final coverage and costs are determined by your insurance company once claims are processed.
If you have questions along the way, we’re happy to help guide you.
Do you offer superbills for out-of-network reimbursement?
Yes. If you choose to use out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Reimbursement rates vary depending on your specific plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your out-of-network benefits, including deductibles and reimbursement percentages.
Please note that payment is due at the time of service, and reimbursement is handled directly between you and your insurance company.
Why do I need to keep a payment method on file?
A payment method is required to be kept on file for all clients. This is part of Headway’s billing system, which securely processes session fees, including any copays, coinsurance, or deductible amounts.
For self-pay services, payment is due at the time of the session and will be charged to the card on file.
